Frequently Asked Questions

Per Massachusetts State Law and Mass General Brigham Policy, ALL Laptops that connect to a network containing personal/confidential information MUST be encrypted. The network at the Institute meets that requirement as we utilize the Mass General Brigham network resources.

If you are an incoming student, the Office of Information Technology will meet with you during orientation to ensure your laptop is encrypted. We also have encryption instructions located in this knowledge base for those that wish to encrypt their computers themselves prior to arriving onsite.

Note: PCs running Windows 10 will need to be running Windows 10 Pro. The Pro versions of the operating system include BitLocker, Microsoft's encryption software. Click here for instructions on upgrading from the Home version to Pro.
